About HROP

In 2003, the Joint Center for Radiation Oncology Residency Training Program and the residency program at the Massachusetts General Hospital Department of Radiation Oncology merged to create the Harvard Radiation Oncology Program. With seven or eight residents entering per year and a total class size of 26+ residents, the Harvard Radiation Oncology Program is the largest radiation oncology residency training program in the country. Combined, the affiliated Radiation Oncology departments treat over 400 patients per day, and allow residents access to experts in virtually all areas of sub-specialization.

About The Residents
Residents rotate through specific disease-site based services on a three-month schedule at Brigham and Woman's Hospital, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Children's Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and Boston Medical Center. Core services include Breast, Thoracic, Pediatrics, Lymphoma, CNS, Head and Neck, Gastrointestinal, Prostate/GU, and Gynocologic Tumors. The four-year program begins in the PGY-2 year and allows for one year of dedicated research. During this year, residents may pursue a Master's of Public Health at the Harvard School of Public Health and conduct clinical research or may conduct basic laboratory research. Resident conferences includes daily case conferences, a yearly physics course, a semi-annual formal radiobiology course, as well as specific course series covering lymphoma, breast, and genitourinary tumors.
